Many of FIVE EIGHTHS' jewelry pieces are made using "Refined Metal" smelted in Japan.
What is Refined Metal? It is silver and gold recovered and reused from urban mines, certified by the Japan Refined Metal Association.
Useful metal resources found in discarded cell phones and computers are called "urban mines," and it is said that Japan possesses an amount comparable to that of major resource-rich countries worldwide. While some accent materials and products made with special techniques may not be Refined Metal, these materials are also responsibly sourced. Designs born from traditional wax carving, metal engraving, and cutting-edge 3D modeling by our designers are carefully crafted in collaboration with skilled artisans.

Fuki Sakai
After gaining experience in fashion design in Tokyo, she moved to the US. She worked as a senior designer for a New York-based brand. She began creating jewelry at a studio in New York and launched "5/8 STUDIOS."
She is currently based in Tokyo and also works as a freelance women's wear designer.
